“You Are Not Alone” Program: Keeping Families Together and Giving Children a Future

“You Are Not Alone” is a program of the “Nur” Charitable Family Children’s Home aimed at supporting children and parents facing difficult life circumstances.

The main goal of the program is not to separate children from their families, but to help families overcome a crisis and keep their children within the family.

How the Program Works

A child stays at “Nur” on weekdays, from Monday to Friday. Here, the child receives meals, care, medical support, assistance with education, and a safe environment.

On weekends, holidays, and school vacations, the child returns home to their parents. Parents retain their rights and remain the child’s legal representatives.

This is essential: “You Are Not Alone” is neither a boarding school nor a traditional shelter.

We do not replace the family for the child. We provide temporary support to the family when parents are unable to overcome their difficulties on their own.

Who the Program Helps

The program is designed for families who want to improve their situation but are facing serious life challenges, such as a lack of stable employment, low income, housing difficulties, or other everyday problems.

While the child stays at “Nur” during the working week, parents have the opportunity to:

  • keep or find a job;
  • receive training;
  • learn a new profession;
  • resolve housing and household issues;
  • restore financial stability;
  • gradually bring stability back to the family.

We do not want to replace the family for the child. We want to help the family keep their child.

What the Child Receives

“Nur” provides children with conditions for living, studying, eating, recreation, and development.

Children receive:

  • three meals a day;
  • seasonal clothing;
  • medical support;
  • transportation to school;
  • assistance with their studies;
  • a safe place to stay on weekdays;
  • opportunities to participate in sports;
  • opportunities for communication and personal development;
  • access to a library and computer classroom.

On the approximately 2,200 m² premises, there is a kitchen and laundry, as well as a library, computer classroom, sports area, football field, basketball court, and workout area.

Why This Program Matters

Over the years, “Nur” has helped hundreds of children. The home was founded in 1998 by Tuyak Kazkenovna Eskozhina and Anuarbek Baisarin.

To restore the first building, the couple sold their own apartment in Almaty and invested the proceeds in creating a home for children. Over 28 years, 750 children have passed through “Nur”.

Today, it is important not only to help children who have already been deprived of the necessary parental care, but also to prevent social orphanhood by supporting families before a crisis leads to the separation of a child from their parents.

Stage 1: Major Renovation of the First Building

So That Children Can Return to Their Rooms

To continue the “You Are Not Alone” program, the “Nur” building needs to be restored.

The building was constructed in 1982. After decades of use, its engineering systems and premises require significant renovation. The work is being carried out in stages.

Stage 1 is the major renovation of the first residential building.

The goal is to prepare the first building, with an area of 568 m² and four residential blocks, for the safe return of children.

Stage 1 period: October – December 2026.

What Needs to Be Done

The first stage requires 13,000,000 ₸.

The funds are needed for:

  • dismantling old structures and utilities;
  • upgrading electrical wiring and engineering systems;
  • replacing plumbing communications;
  • repairing the heating system;
  • interior finishing;
  • major renovation and waterproofing of bathrooms;
  • replacing the flooring;
  • installing new interior doors;
  • thermal insulation and external insulation of the facade.

Why the Renovation Cannot Be Delayed

The renovation is not simply about updating an old building.

It is necessary to ensure that children can safely stay in the residential premises of “Nur” and that the program can continue operating.

The residential premises currently need to be brought into compliance with the necessary safety requirements. Therefore, our immediate task is to restore the first building and prepare it for the children’s return.

Transparency

“Nur” operates thanks to private donations and does not receive government funding.

We believe that every donor should be able to see how their contribution is used. That is why the website regularly publishes documents on donations received and spent, bank statements, supporting documents, and reports on completed work.

By supporting the renovation of the first building, you help keep the “You Are Not Alone” program running.

Help Restore the First Building

We need to raise 13,000,000 ₸.

Every contribution brings us closer to the day when children can return to safe and prepared premises at “Nur”.

You are not simply helping to renovate a building. You are helping preserve a place where a child can be safe while their family overcomes its difficulties.
