The “Nur” Charity Family Orphanage has been operating in the city of Talgar since December 2, 1998—for 28 years already. Over this time, more than 750 children have passed through the institution: orphans, children left without parental care, and children from families facing difficult life situations.
Why There Are Temporarily No Children at “Nur” Right Now
The institution’s building has not undergone a major renovation in over 20 years. To safely welcome children back at a decent standard, the building requires a comprehensive reconstruction, including the roof, utility networks, as well as living and domestic spaces. The estimated cost of the reconstruction is 110,000 USD. This is precisely why there are currently no children staying at the “Nur” home—we are not ready to open our doors until the building is properly restored.
Fundraising for the reconstruction is already underway. As soon as the renovation is completed, the “Nur” home will immediately resume its operations.
What Happens After the Reconstruction: The “You Are Not Alone” Project
Immediately upon completion of the building renovation, “Nur” will launch the “You Are Not Alone” project for orphans and children left without parental care. In the first phase, the institution plans to welcome 50 children.
As part of the project, the children will receive:
- Accommodation in renovated dormitory buildings;
- Three meals a day, developed in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- Clothing and hygiene products;
- Medical supervision, including registration at the local clinic, regular check-ups, and vaccinations;
- Schooling, which includes enrollment in a local school and daily transportation via our own minibus;
- Development and leisure activities organized jointly with volunteer groups.
The “Nur” home will handle the admission of children in strict compliance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 29, 2008, No. 114-IV “On Special Social Services,” in full cooperation with guardianship and care authorities.
Our Team
The project will be implemented by the institution’s permanent staff of more than 20 employees: the director, deputy director for educational work, caregivers, a nurse, cooks, and maintenance staff—the very same people who have been caring for the children at “Nur” for almost three decades.
